Natural Cleaning Tips for Bathrooms

I have been gradually making the move to using more and more natural household cleaning items. Especially in the bathroom you can see the transition. Homemade soaps, shampoos, all natural deodorants and toothpaste are just a few items I can think of off the top of my head.

The next step is to start using better cleaning products around the house. I found a really great article over at the Broccoli Cupcake blog on natural ways to clean your bathroom. Good stuff and just what I was looking for!

Cleaning is something that few people enjoy, even so it’s an essential part of your life. Most people will use harsh chemicals to remove lime scale and make your bathroom look as good as new. However, there are plenty of natural things which can be used to get the same, if not better effects. These aren’t harmful to your skin and won’t damage the environment. Read through the rest of this guide to find out how you can clean naturally. These natural cleaning tips will have your bathroom shining like never before.

Lime scale

Limescale is the hard deposit which builds up on taps and showers. This is caused by hard water and can make bathroom fixtures look dull and lifeless. There are plenty of chemicals that can dissolve this limescale and make your fixtures shiny again, but these can be expensive and are quite nasty to use.

A much kinder and easier solution is a lemon. Simply cut a lemon in half and use it to rub over your taps and shower. The acid in the lemon will break down any hard water build up so it wipes off easily. Then rinse the fittings with water and dry. They will come up looking as good as new and all the marks from hard water will disappear.

Cleaning the Tub

Cleaning the tub can be done with plenty of products, but normally this will involve a lot of scrubbing. If you use vinegar and baking soda together though it will foam and do a lot of the hard work for you. Start by sprinkling the baking soda around the sides of your bath, concentrating on the dirtiest areas of the bath. Then use a spray bottle filled with vinegar to wet all of the baking soda, this will cause it to start foaming. The foaming process loosens the dirt on the side of your bath which will minimize scrubbing. Leave the foam to do its work for a few minutes, and then wash away. You will still need to do some scrubbing, but nowhere near as much as when using commercial bath cleaning products.

When finished make sure you rinse very thoroughly using hot water to remove all the baking soda, otherwise it will leave behind white marks when it dries.

Cleaning the Sink

The same vinegar and baking powder trick can be applied to the sink. Put baking soda in the sink and add vinegar until a foam forms. Then scrub the sink with the foam which will remove dirt and make your sink nice and shiny. Make sure that the sink is rinsed thoroughly using very hot water to prevent the white marks from the baking soda appearing when dry.

Toilet

The toilet is probably the worst area of the bathroom you will have to clean, especially if it has been neglected for some time. Once again vinegar and baking soda are perfect partners to tackle toilet grime. Add baking powder to your toilet bowel and then add generous amounts of vinegar so that it foams. Scrub the toilet bowel and rinse with hot water.

Tiles

Tiles can be cleaned using a steam cleaner. It works well if you add some vinegar to the water which will help to break down any grease on the floor.

Hopefully these natural cleaning tips have shown you that there’s really no need to buy expensive and harsh cleaning products to clean your bathroom. You can get excellent results using completely natural products.
